I am told that many of these kids were rescued from the dump. I don't mean that figuratively - I mean Mauricio literally removed babies & toddlers from the dump which was 'ruled over' by ruthless gangs. At first when some children came to the orphanage they were fed clean healthy food, they became ill. They were used to eating garbage & it took a little while for their bodies to adjust. Many people inquire about adopting these kids, but they are not adoptable. They are part of a permanent family with parents named Mauricio & Rachel. Some still have biological relatives near by who were unable to care for them, but still visit ocassionally. Needless to say, Rachel & Mauricio need help caring for their gigantic family.
