ElSalvadorOrphanage.com
El Salvador (Republic of El Salvador ) covers an 21,040 sq km (8,123.59 miles)
area. This is smaller than the state of New Jersey. El Salvador is populated
by 6.5 million people. Much of this land is scattered with 25 inactive
volcanoes. It is bordered by Honduras, Guatemala.
Most estimates say as many
as 20,000 of these people are
orphaned children
.
The lucky ones live in
orphanages.

Our daughter is fortunate enough to have a teacher who is interested in
involving
the kids in a project helping one of the orphanages his friends have
established near San Salvador. Below is part of the 1st letter Mr. Stime sent
home to parents at the start of this project.
What follows on this site is the result of this amazing trip. The word
orphanage is actually a misnomer. This place is a home to 25 once orphaned
kids. Their adoptive parents, Maricio (29) & Rachel (22) opened their doors
almost 2 years ago. These children now have a home
forever
. There are four pages of pictures of the most beautiful children in the world
being cared for by folks with great big good hearts! In a short time we will
have comments and observations posted by the people that made this life
changing trip.
To all of you who donated, thank you so very much. To all of you
who wanted to but haven't, we will show you how & where on the next pages.

Dear Parents,
The proposed aid trip is to an orphanage near the capital city of San Salvador,
El Salvador. The orphanage was started only a few years ago by Mauricio and
Rachel, a young couple given the burden (and I'm sure, joy) of caring for the
children. Rachel's sister Christina and her husband Andrew, both close friends
of mine, are helping at the orphanage right now. Other friends have helped in
the past, and say that there continues to be a need for further help with the
kids and with the grounds, as the number of children continues to grow.
Last summer, there were sixteen children at the orphanage. Now, there are
twenty-three. Most of the children come from city dumps, and are blessed to
have been found by Mauricio and Rachel. But they need help. There are
presently six infants among the children, who require a great deal of care and
attention, and work needs to be done on the orphanage grounds and buildings.
A few students have expressed interest in going. Going to help somewhere –
with their physical bodies rather than just with money. Some are currently
working on a children's book project, writing simple books and illustrating
them, as gifts for children in a – or in the – orphanage. I have discussed the
possibility (the very real possibility) of going to El Salvador with a few
students. This will not be a PHS-affiliated trip, however. Rather, it will be
an opportunity for interested people to see and experience the lives of people
in El Salvador, and to help and love the orphans there.
For those interested in traveling to El Salvador, there are a few things that
we must consider:
Travel Dates: I will only be available to go between
the end of the school year (June 5th) and June 15th or 20th. We need to plan
on exact dates.
Plane Tickets: currently the plane tickets cost around
$430. As we approach the travel date, prices will rise to around $800. It is
therefore best to plan the dates of travel ASAP, and purchase tickets ASAP.
Accommodation: People helping at the orphanage can
stay there. They have some new buildings that are not yet in use, with beds
for people helping. Thus, accommodation is free.….."
..."Chaperones: I want to encourage the parents of
interested students to join this trip, for support, chaperone, and to help at
the orphanage! In addition to me, three other adults (friends of mine in the
community) are already planning on joining the group. Let me know if you're
interested.
Interested students and parents should contact me with any questions, concerns,
and input. We also need to get together some afternoon really, really soon to
discuss plans.
